Meet Dr. David Adler, as he discusses his areas of focus, what brought him to Sentara and how the field of Interventional Cardiology in evolving.
Hi, David Adler. I'm an interventional structural heart cardiologist with cento cardiology specialists. My areas of interest are in structural heart disease and, and heart valve care. Uh The way I think about that is we fix heart problems that have traditionally been fixed with open heart surgery, but fix them with catheters and a minimally invasive approach with minimal recovery compared with open heart surgery. My approach is that every single patient is a VIP. Uh We work together as a team in the heart valve center to usher every patient through from beginning to end. It can be a very daunting uh experience to find out that you have a, a heart valve problem that's gonna require a procedure or surgery. And so we take a lot of time to educate patients, make sure that they understand what we're discussing, what the problem is, what our options are to fix it and and escort them through that process through their procedure or surgery, follow them afterwards and make sure that they have complete comprehensive care from start to finish. Sana uh was a perfect match for me. I am from Virginia. I grew up in Richmond, uh went to U VA for undergrad. Did my medical school at M CV, which is now a VCU School of medicine. After 10 years at Vanderbilt University, we wanted to move back to Virginia. Sana offered the facilities, the colleagues and expertise and um per institutional match for what I was looking for. And we made Southside Hampton Roads our home 12 years ago and have never looked back. It's, it's been wonderful to be here and uh wonderful to be a part of the community here. And it's my privilege to care for the patients of Southside Hampton Roads. One of the things that I love about what I do is that it is constantly evolving. So there are continuously new therapies coming along that we can offer patients. The the field of growth right now is in valvular heart care and transcatheter care of of valvular heart disease. And there are constantly new techniques and new devices. Uh Coming along, we're involved in multiple research trials where we can offer patients cutting edge therapy and involve them in the latest uh most innovative technology.
