The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) spiked in the 1990's and has continued to skyrocket. Today, ASD is nine times more prevalent than in 1997. It remains a matter od debate whether this dramatic increase can be attributed to greater awareness, more sensitive screening tools or an actual increase in the number of cases due to environmental or other factors.
