This audiogram provided by the Johns Hopkins Listening Center reveals the possible wide-ranging hearing loss levels of a cochlear implant candidate (hybrid and full array CI). Cochlear implant candidacy is based on speech understanding. Any patient who is struggling with hearing aids and with <60% word recognition should be considered for cochlear implant candidacy.
A hybrid cochlear implant is a short-electrode array in which the patient hears through a combination of electric and acoustic stimulation. A cochlear implant provides access to sound and speech through electric stimulation only.
