When patients come to Mayo Clinic for their care, they are going to receive it in an environment in which the primary value is the needs of the patient come first.

And that's been the primary value of our institution for over 150 years.

But when you think about care, it's not just the physician, right?

It's the team. It starts from the front door, it's patient management, it's the technicians in the or, it's the scrub techs in the or.

It's the nurses in the or. Our focus is not just primary care, it's the whole spectrum.

It is a, a partnership.

And one realizes medicine is all about teamwork.

And it's not only about teamwork internally to Mayo Clinic, but it's about teamwork across sites and across geography as well.

When a referring physician calls or sends a note, they really wanna do what's best for their patient and they want another opinion. And so I, I hold that in great respect and great regard.

We have a policy to respond as quickly as possible within 24 hours if possible. 'cause we know that incredible stress.

So we try hard to expedite care.

We're very keen on research at Mayo.

I believe that we have more clinical trials at Mayo Clinic than any other institution in the United States. At Mayo Clinic, Florida, we're installing a carbon beam facility for radiation.

The first in this hemisphere.

Investing in technology is critical for providing the outcomes for patients, and we're heavily committed to that at Mayo.

What we can bring to bear here are specialists in a whole variety of areas, not only in neurology, but in neurosurgery and in other fields of medicine as well.

Using very advanced, innovative techniques to guide us in the evaluation of the patients.

A neurologist can very easily consult a neurosurgeon or a neuroradiologist or really any subspecialty imaginable in the field of medicine. Bringing that collective input, that collective knowledge, bringing that to bear on behalf of the patient.

The reason integration here is truly seamless is because we don't have walls.

The reason we don't have that is our culture.

You'd be hard pressed to find another institution where surgeons are not paid by what they do. I'm on a flat salary as all my colleagues are.

So what that means in practicality is we don't do unnecessary operations.

The fact that we are un incentivized, the fact that our primary goal is the needs of the patient come first, means we are not isolated.

We facilitate integration in multidisciplinary care and that approach in a very integrated and timely fashion, offers the best care to patients with the best outcomes.

Our system here strongly supports that the amiable sharing of patients across specialties, across disciplines to provide the best possible care for the patient.

That is what Mayo Clinic is all about.
