Meet Electrophysiologist, Dr. Divyang R. Patel, and learn about his clinical interests, what brought him to Sentara, and how the field of Electrophysiology is evolving.
So my name is Dev Patel. I'm one of the cardiac electrophysiology ists with Sentara cardiology specialists. I'm located with office based in the Peninsula in Williamsburg, Newport News and I do procedures both in Hampton and Norfolk. My specialty deals with heart arrhythmias, both fast and slow heart rhythms, which means putting in pacemakers, defibrillators and doing catheter based ablation therapies for fast heart rate. Um What brought me to Sentara was the excellent patient based care in the community with cutting edge tools and technologies to deal with heart arrhythmias. The team based approach between the surgeons, the general cardiologists, the interventionists and the electro physiologist is great here and unparalleled compared to other places. So I think how I approach patient care is patients are like my family members and I treat them as I would treat any member of my family. So they deserve the best care that I can provide as electro physiologists. Um and they, they also deserve great communication between myself, their family members and the patient about the care I can deliver. So the newest researching electrophysiology has to deal with Catherine-based ablation including pulse field ablation, which will allow us to do ablation at 1/5 the time that currently we do. Um and now we have better devices with longer battery lives and lead lys pacemakers and defibrillators um that go in without any kind of pocket or large devices.
