Slowing of Junctional Escape Rhythm Following Atrioventricular Node Ablation in a Porcine Model of Complete AV Block

Samuel Bergman, graduate research assistant at The Johns Hopkins University, discusses his abstract about establishing a complete atrioventricular block in porcine models, which was the topic of his presentation during the Eighth World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. This research is important regarding novel treatments for congenital heart disease (CHD), as this study provides a model that is translatable to human cardiac diseases and functions. This study also is helping researchers understand and look for novel treatments for pediatric patients with CHD. Current treatments for pediatric patients sometimes involve highly invasive procedures that result in atrioventricular block.
