Cardio-Oncology: Screening & Surveillance

In this presentation, Matthew Harinstein, MD, MBA, FACC, discusses screening and surveillance techniques to improve long-term management of cardio-oncology patients.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Implement a cardio-oncology program into practice
  • Recall how and why different chemotherapeutic agents and radiation therapy may be associated with Cancer Therapeutics-Related Cardiac Dysfunction (CTRCD)/Cardiomyopathy
  • Follow guidelines from interdisciplinary position statements, including patient testing techniques and classification of results
  • Recognize the risk factors associated with Cancer Therapeutics-Related Cardiac Dysfunction (CTRCD)/Cardiomyopathy, both prior to cancer treatment and as a function of cancer treatment choices for both adults and children
  • Implement strategies to minimize risk during therapy, surveillance and monitoring during treatment, and surveillance and monitoring after cancer treatment concludes for both adults and children
