Oral dysplasia is a precancerous condition that presents clinically as white, red or mixed white/red lesions in or on the mouth, tongue and lips. The medical terms for these lesions are leukoplakia, erythroplakia and erythroleukoplakia, respectively. Some patients with oral dysplasia will develop oral cancer, which is why proper disease management and careful long-term follow-up are critical.
