Lung screening at Mount Sinai leads to early detection of lung cancer in former smoker

title
Wolfgang Lehner

Growing up in Austria, Wolfgang Lehner was a heavy, pack-a-day smoker from age 15 to 51. He quit smoking in 2010.

In late 2017, Wolfgang saw a new doctor about his blood pressure medicine—his blood pressure had spiked after he quit smoking, but his previous doctors had never found problems related to his smoking. The doctor ordered a computed tomography (CT) scan of his lungs, and when the results weren’t clear, he advised Wolfgang to see a lung specialist. This led to life-saving care by Mount Sinai specialists and the Mount Sinai Lung Screening Program which focuses on the effects of long-term smoking.
