Emese Zsiros, MD, PhD, FACOG
Gynecologic Oncology
Growing up as the daughter of a trauma surgeon and an intensive care anesthesiologist, I saw very early on the miracles medicine plays in people's lives. During medical school I realized the role of basic science in finding new therapies and new cures, which led me to enroll in the combined MD/PhD program at my medical school, one of the prestigious medical schools of Central-Eastern Europe. Through exchange fellowships and rotations in different countries I came to appreciate how the diversity of approaches towards medical management and problem solving can aid individual patients.
After earning my medical degree and finishing my PhD studies I came to the United States to complete my OB/GYN residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. As there is nothing more challenging and therefore satisfying as helping those who are most in need, after residency I completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania to start a career in treating gynecologic cancers. During my fellowship I equally gained expertise in traditional open surgery as well as laparoscopic and robotic techniques, allowing me to provide a wide range of options to optimize oncological care and to minimize post-operative recovery time and complications. I currently lead the only laparoscopic official testing center for the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) in upstate New York. In addition to this I also provide a full range of chemotherapy options for gynecologic cancers and consultation for enrolling in novel clinical trials.
I joined the faculty of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2014 with the goal of providing state-of-the-art clinical care in a caring, compassionate and patient centered clinical environment and to continue with cancer immunotherapy research. My highest priority as an academic gynecologic oncologist is to provide exceptional personalized cancer care, combining the finest surgical techniques with compassion and cutting edge research for every patient, as if they were my close friend or a family member.
I am a board certified OB/GYN and Gynecologic Oncology, Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member or several professional societies, such as Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
